Wood Wall Boards and Cladding: Sourcing Checklist

Wall board and cladding programs should define profile, species, size, surface finish, installation direction, packaging and destination market requirements early.

Wall board projects need clear profile details

Wood wall boards and cladding boards may use square edge, rounded edge, tongue and groove, shiplap or other project profiles. The drawing or profile sketch is often more important than a general product name.

Specification points

  • Profile drawing, installation direction and exposed face
  • Species, grade, knot allowance and color range
  • Thickness, width, length and tolerance
  • Surface finish: raw, brushed, stained, coated or paint-ready
  • Indoor, sheltered, exterior or project-specific requirement
  • Bundle, carton, pallet and edge protection for long boards

Important sourcing note

Wall board buyers should not rely only on product photos. A profile drawing, target sample or installation requirement helps avoid mismatch in joint shape, visible width, edge detail and packaging method.
